Wild swimming in the hidden coves of the north coast

Blue sea in private coves reached only on foot or by water — the north coast's secret swimming holes.

The coves between Benirràs and the north-east corner are Ibiza's best wild swimming: no roads, no sunbeds, just clear sea and rock. ## Cala Xuclar A short walk from Port de Sant Miquel, this cove stays quiet even in August. Slippery rock steps lead to water so clear the depth is easy to misjudge — enter carefully. ## Cala Pou des Lleó A rough-track cove with famously blue water and no facilities. Get there early or not at all; the track is narrow. ## The walls of the Amunts Between coves, the cliff bases hide natural pools and rock shelves. Only swim where entry is obvious, never alone, and never jumping — the water can be shallower than it looks. ## Wild-swim essentials Water shoes, a tow float, a dry bag, and a buddy. Check the swell at the village harbours before committing, and stay well clear of boat moorings.
