Walking the north coast: Portinatx to Benirràs
A half-day route through pine woods and rocky coves along Ibiza’s wildest shoreline.
The north coast is the least developed part of Ibiza, and the stretch between Portinatx and Benirràs shows it at its best: pine woods, red-earth tracks, empty coves and a horizon that belongs to the sea.
## The route
Begin at Portinatx and follow the coast path east and south, linking Cala d'en Port with a string of small coves before turning inland through the woods. The terrain rolls rather than climbs, with a few steep drops to the water and some rough, rocky sections underfoot.
## Timing
Allow three to four hours at an easy pace, plus swim stops. There is shade for much of the way, but the exposed headlands get hot by midday.
## Getting back
The route is not a loop. Either leave a car at Benirràs or use the seasonal bus that links the north-coast resorts. In summer, book a taxi in advance for the return leg — phone signal can be patchy.
## What to take
- Water and a snack — facilities are limited between the two ends
- Water shoes if you plan to swim in the coves
- A windproof layer; the Tramontana can blow even on a bright day
