Photographing Ibiza: a sunset masterclass
Where to stand, when to arrive, and how to make Es Vedrà and the west coast look the way they feel.
Ibiza faces the setting sun, which makes it one of the most rewarding sunset locations in the Mediterranean for photographers.
## The classic frames
- **Es Vedrà from Torre des Savinar** — the definitive shot, best with a long lens from the tower yard
- **Cala Comte from the mirador** — three coves, the Bledes islets and a whole horizon of colour
- **Benirràs** — pines, drummers on the sand and the Finger of God in silhouette
## Timing and light
Arrive 60–90 minutes before sunset: the best light spans the last 40 minutes, including the blue hour after the sun dips. Cars fill the Viewpoint car parks fast, so treat parking as part of the shoot.
## Settings that work
- Underexpose by a stop and recover the shadows in post
- Use a polariser to deepen the water
- Bracket for the ramp against the sand
- Stay 20 minutes after the sun is gone — the afterglow and first stars are often the best shots
## The golden rule
Stay behind fences, keep to paths, and take the photo the landscape deserves. The tower and its cliffs are popular for good reason — treat them with care.
