Getting around Ibiza: buses, ferries and car hire

A practical guide to moving around the island — bus cover, ferry links and when a hire car is actually worth it.

Ibiza is small (roughly 45 km by 20 km) but its beaches and villages are scattered, so transport planning matters. Here is the honest guide. ## Buses The island's green buses cover all the main resorts and many coves in summer. Line L8 links Sant Antoni and Santa Eulària via the interior; coastal summer services run to Cala Comte, Benirràs and Cala Salada. Frequency drops dramatically outside June–September. ## Ferries - **Ibiza Town to Formentera:** year-round, 30–60 minutes - **Ibiza Town to Denia (mainland):** the long haul, 2–3 hours - **San Antonio to Denia:** seasonal option Frequencies rise steeply in summer — book vehicle space ahead if you drive on and out. ## Car hire Hire is the most practical choice for trailheads and hidden coves, but book months ahead for July and August. Choose the smallest car that fits your luggage: streets and car parks are tight. Always photograph the car before you leave the lot. ## Taxis Cruise taxis serve the airport, but for out-of-town villages in the north, phone ahead or book an app. ## Best of all Combine: a hire car for the interior, the bus for evenings out, and the ferry for a Formentera day-trip.
