The best snorkelling spots in Ibiza

Posidonia meadows, sea caves and gin-clear coves — where to put your mask in on the island.

Ibiza's protected posidonia seagrass keeps its water extraordinarily clear, and its coves are full of life. These are the spots that deliver. ## Cala Xarraca and its coves The north coast's own aquarium: low rocky coves with bream, wrasse and octopus drifting in crystal water. Mud pools at the head of the bay are a novelty — they stain swimwear, so rinse well. ## Cala Llentia A quiet west-coast cove between Cala Vadella and Cala d'Hort, with good rock edges for spotting red and brown fish under the shade of the pines. ## Es Xarco and Cala Bassa rock edges West-facing rocky margins where the shelter brings calm water and plenty of life. ## The Ses Salines reserve The seagrass meadows themselves are a dive and snorkel highlight — shallow, protected and full of juvenile fish. Keep your fins off the grass and admire from above. ## Gear and rules Bring a mask that fits; use water shoes on any cove with rock shelves; and respect the reserve — no touching, no feeding, and never stand on posidonia.
